  What a truly special and historic moment this was at Kef Kalesi, when a remarkable archaeological discovery was made during our tour this past September in Türkiye! 🔎

While leading an investigation along the southern slope beneath the ruins, one of our guests—Zeva from Australia—turned over a piece of basalt that revealed something extraordinary: an ancient fragment from a bas-relief showing the legs of a lion. 

Despite its great age and the conditions where it was found, the artifact was in exceptional preservation, displaying the same refined craftsmanship seen in other reliefs from the site.

We immediately presented the fragment to Dr. İsmail Coşkun, the head excavator at Kef Kalesi, who was deeply impressed by the discovery and ensured that it was placed in the nearby museum for preservation and study.

Moments like this remind us just how rare and powerful sites like Kef Kalesi truly are—places where real discoveries continue to emerge, revealing new clues about the lost civilizations that once flourished in the Van Region. 🗿
